Paper-like layers of graduated colour stack up to form an illusion of depth.
Originally the intention behind this piece was to create something that looked like agate, a type of rock formation that builds up in layers of quartz to create interesting patterns, sometimes found in geodes. This exploration went down a rabbit hole for a long time that looked to be a dead end, and I almost abandoned the approach entirely except for stumbling upon a composition that finally started to look interesting and pleasing to the eye.
